The Birmingham City ‘Midnight’ bus was designed to go onto the streets of Birmingham during the night time to engage with the youth of the city that have no jobs and little chance of employment and to engage with them to assist them into abetter lifestyle and culture.
The MCV Evolution bus was purchased as a new shell by BDA and conversion began after consultation with the youth leaders and a group of local teenagers involved with the project.
The vehicle has a book leaf entry ramp for disabled people, and on the drivers partition hangs a notice board outlining the services on offer and the staff engaged in the days work.
Entering the vehicle to the RHS is a counter area with notice board and leaflet cabinets and a glass fronted fridge for sale of soft drinks. To the LHS is the driver and staff wardrobe with work surface and cupboards.
Behind the cupboards is housed the 6.6kw generator in a bespoke sound proofed cabinet. Opposite is the kitchen area which houses a stainless steel sink, pumped water supply and storage facilities and a microwave. Further down on the RHS is a one to one consultation room where a private conversation can be held. Rearwards of the one to one room is the toilet compartment that houses all the usual facilities.
On the RHS rear of the generator is a meeting area with a table and 4 chairs and a music area with twin decks and mixer control.
As we enter the rear raised area through the main partitions is a large lounge area with black leather deep buttoned squabs to accommodate up to 18 people. LCD TVs and DVD players are fitted to show promotional material and in the centre of the area is a large drop leaf table.
The vehicle is heated with eberspacher diesel heaters housed in lockers under the seating areas, and is complemented by a roof mounted air conditioning unit.
The exterior of the vehicle are two large awnings that can be deployed to give covered external use. |
