SOS Bus

The SOS Bus is a community/multi-agency initiative to provide a Safe Haven for vulnerable young people to meet the needs of any person in clubland at night. The SOS Safe Haven Bus is a high profile, highly visible haven for young people who are at risk through inability to get home, illness or injury, emotional distress or other vulnerability.

Within the SOS Safe Haven bus committed volunteers provide young people at risk with immediate assistance related to Drug or alcohol related issues, emotional distress, social isolation caused by aggressive behavior, lack of immediate finance or relationship breakdown. In short all of the elements which put many young people in clubland at risk in all of our cities every night.

The build of the SOS Safe Haven was based on a client supplied Optare bare shell bus body. The bus was pre painted in it’s base coat by Optare. External features include Halogen lighting to the near side, a roof mounted heating/ air-conditioning unit which has a hand operated remote control. Two CCTV cameras are positioned over the door and to the rear of the bus and a Night Owl mast mounted CCTV camera gives a turn and tilt facility, complete with 2 colour monitors. There is a CCTV recording system on board. To aid communications there are external front and rear dome speakers connected to a Bose sound system just in case anyone fails to notice a large yellow bus with two powered awnings. The vehicle is equiped with proximity sensors to the front and rear together with a drivers CCTV reversing system just in case the big yellow bus fails to notice a late night reveller!

Disabled access to the Bus is straightforward via a fold over entry ramp to the front entrance
