Youth Outreach Vehicle

Youth Outreach VehicleThe Rochdale vehicle were designed as general youth outreach vehicles to access the youth of outlying areas of the town where no youth facilities are available. The vehicles were fitted with equipment to enable sessions to be held in the vehicle for a variety of purposes including health advise, educational use and electronic game use.

The three vehicles built were based on Optare Excell 11.5m long buses and were converted to a theme as agreed with the youth workers and principle youth leaders.

Each vehicle had a slightly different internal colour scheme and layout, but all were painted in metallic silver with distinctive council logos.

Each vehicle was equipped with a disabled entry ramp and large external awning with lighting.

As you enter the vehicle to the LHS is a large work surface with storage underneath, on the RHS is the driver and staff wardrobe with work surface and art boards for the younger children to do sketching and painting . Rear of the entry areas is a large double lounge area with demountable central table where group discussions can be held. The lounge is trimmed in black leather deep buttoned and above each corner is fitted a LCD TV with DVD source for general entertainment and presentation material.

Past the lounge and through the partition with central sliding door is the kitchen and music area. The kitchen houses a stainless steel sink and tap, hot and cold pumped water, a microwave and a glass fronted fridge. Storage areas are provided both under and above the kitchen unit.

To the RHS of the vehicle is the disco area with a large surface for decks and mixing equipment, and storage underneath for computers etc. and the Sony music system.

To the LHS rear corner of the vehicle is the fully equipped toilet compartment which has automatic lighting and ventilation and a vanity unit housing hot and cold pumped water and a large storage cabinet.

Across the tear face of the vehicle is a 3 position iT area that houses computers and X boxes. The unit is constructed with a bright pattered aluminium face to be attractive to the young people.

Stainless steel roller keypads for the computers give a modern quality feel.

The kitchen area is vented by a single dual way electric fan mounted to the roof, and the entire vehicle is air conditioned.
